Edith Iowa Sell

Edith Iowa Sell was born in Savannah, Iowa, September 26, 1892, and died following a short illness at the Davis County Hospital February 10, 1972, at the age of 79. She was the daughter of Horace Greeley and and Rose Fix Oneal. The family moved to Milton where Iowa graduated from Milton High School in 1910.

She attended Drake University and studied music. She taught vocal music in the Milton school for several years and gave private lessons to every youngster in the Milton community who was interested. She also served as a telephone operator at Milton.

September 22, 1922, she married John I. (Jack) Sell. They had no children but they had a large part in rearing a niece, Hollie Oneal, whose mother died at her birth.

From an early age, until her death, Iowa held membership in the Milton Christian Church. She served as deaconess, in various capacities in the women's organizations and as a teacher of a class of young people. Her leadership and influence in the church will be sorely missed.

She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Friendship Club.

Iowa was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Faye, and a brother, Beryl.

She is survived by her husband, niece, Mrs. Lloyd Hays (Hollie) of San Antonio, Texas, and one nephew, Jack Oneal of Roselle, Ill.

A memorial fund to her church is being established in her name.
