Bessie Rector rite Saturday

The service for Bessie Mae Rector, 87, 1007 E. Jefferson Ave., who died Wednesday morning, Sept. 28, 1988, will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Clair Odell officiating. Burial will be in Troy Cemetery at Troy. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday. Memorials have been established to First United Methodist Church and the Senior Citizen Center.

Mrs. Rector was born March 16, 1901, in Van Buren County, the daughter of John and Edith Nason Brooks. She attended grade school in Van Buren County, high school in Troy and Cedar Falls and extension school in Ottumwa. She worked for an attorney in Keosauqua before her marriage to Elmer Rector Aug. 11, 1921, in Bloomfield. He died Dec. 10, 1971. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Women's Society of Christian Service, Keep Young Club, Senior Citizen Center and a lifetime member of the Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary. She lived her life in Iowa, the last 40 years in Jefferson County.

Surviving are a daughter, Thelma Rosekrans of Fairfax; a son, Ivan of Mediapolis; six grandchildren, a sister, Daisy Day of Ottumwa and a brother, Rex Brooks of Prairie Village, Kan. Two brothers, George and Peter Brooks, preceded her in death.
