Obituary prepared by a closed friend of the family:

Wm. Winters, the seventh child of O. P. and Elizabeth Winters, was born in Carroll county, Illinois, January 14, 1850, and died at his home in Toledo, February 26, 1922, at the age of 72. He was one of a family of fourteen children, all of whom lived to maturity. Two brothers, John, of Tama; and George, of Traer; and four sisters, Mrs. Onan, of Lake City, Iowa, Mrs. Harrs, of Toledo; Mrs. Edwards, of Manilla, Iowa, and Mrs. Ross, of Missouri, survive him. Mr. Winters and Helen Burke were married in December 1875, and located on a farm in Howard township, later buying a farm a mile east of Gladbrook where they lived a few years when he exchanged this farm for one in Howard township near his old home and neighbors, where he continued to live until 1908, when he moved to Toledo, which has been his home ever since.

To Mr. and Mrs. Winters two daughters were born: Mrs. Clarance Emerson, who passed away five years ago, and Mrs. Martin Christenson. Besides the wife and daughter, seven grandchildren were left to mourn their loss. Mr. Winters was known as kind and indulgent husband and father and a true neighbor in every sense of the word. He united with the M. E. church at Toledo September 16th, 1920.

The writer of this brief sketch wished to add that in the passing of Mr. Winters he has lost one of his best and truest friends.
