Hans Franzen was born in Schleswig, Germany, April 7, 1842, and died at Garwin, Iowa, January 7, 1919, at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 1 day. He came from Germany to Iowa in the year 1876 and lived on a farm north of Garwin until 1900, when he moved to Garwin and that had been his home every since. He was united in marriage to Margaret Cook, and to this union was born Anna, who has preceded him. His wife passed away January 15, 1917. Two brothers and one sister have preceded him. He is survived by three brothers, Earnest, of Chicago, Ils., and Christ and Henry, of Paullina, Iowa, also two grand-daugters, Louise and Anna, and one grand-son, Hans, besides other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held January 9th at the home, M. McGlashing, pastor of the United Brethren church of Garwin, officiating. Interment was made in the Crystal cemetery.
