Margaret Jane Jones was born in South Wales, July the 24th, 1828 and died at the home of C. A. McCreary near Toledo, Iowa, June 5, 1910 aged 81 years, 10 months, 7 days.
At the age of 5 years she accompanied her parents to America, residing first at Evansburg, Penn.. In 1843 the family emigrated to the then territory of Iowa, locating near Iowa City, Johnson County, Iowa. Here she grew to womanhood and on May 6, 1849 was united in marriage with Maylon Hibbs with whom she lived until his death July 6, 1905.
They resided at Iowa City till 1855 when they moved to Tama County, locating near Monticello. In 1859 they went overland to California returning by steamer by way of New York in 1866-7 to near Toledo, Tama County, Iowa where they resided till death.
To them were born five children all of whom preceded her to the better land, three dying in infancy and two in early youth. She leaves no immediate relatives. In early youth along with her husband she united with the M. E. church at Iowa City. In 1896 they united with the Rose Hill M. E. church.
Thus passes one of the pioneers of Iowa and Tama County who endured the privations and dangers of pioneer life.
The pall bearers at the funeral were J. H. Giger, E. Mericle, M. Mericle, H. L. M. Bruner, A. B. Jones, Wm. Hilo.
