James Rosen Griswold, only son of John A. and Margaret Griswold, was born in Indiana, June 24, 1862. He came with his parents to Andalusia, Illinois, in the year 1875. He was married to Miss Ella Stropes, January 27, 1883, and moved to Elberon in October of the same year. Three children were born to them, Rennie, who died at the age of four years, Frank and Lucile. Mr. Griswold had been in failing health for the past nine months, only part of the time able to go about his accustomed duties. He was hopeful and tried hard to get well, but the dreaded Briget's disease was not to be overcome. For the past two weeks he was confined to the bed and tenderly cared for by his wife and daughter. The Modern Woodman lodge, of which he was a member, secured a trained nurse from Cedar Rapids, but he only lived one day after her arrival. He died August 12, 1910, being 48 years, 1 month and 19 days old. He leaves his wife, son and daughter and one sister, Mrs. Mary Beal, of Tama.

The funeral was held in the church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. W. R. Mellott preaching the sermon. Further services at the grave in Waltham cemetery were conducted by the M. W. lodge. Those present from away were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Jones of Netawaka, Kansas, H. G. Chambers and son, of Rock Island, Illinois, and Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Beal, of Tama.
