Nancy Jane Taylor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Taylor, was born in Green Briar county, Va., Nov. 14, 1829, and died at her home in Haven, Iowa, Jan. 22, 1910, being therefore 81 years, 2 months and 8 days old.

In the early days of her life she with her parents moved from Virginia to Madison county, Indiana, and in the year 1849 was united in marriage to Andrew Showen, of that place, who passed to his reward September 24th, 1897.

In the year 1853 Mrs Showen together with her huband and family emigrated from Indiana and settled in Winneshiek county, Iowa, in which vicinity they lived until the fall of 1864 when they moved to Tama County and settled in Haven, where she resided at the time of her death.

Seven children were born to this union all of whom survive her, Mrs. D. Rosenberger, of Tama, Mrs. Jabe Coulson of Poweshiek county, J. A. Showen of Teddy, Okla., Mrs. B. J. Louthan, Mrs. J. K. Gray, James and Margaret of Haven, Iowa.

At the age of 25 she was converted and joined the United Brethren church in Winneshiek county, and upon moving from thence her membership was transferred to the M. E. church at Haven.

She was a faithful Christian, a kind and loving mother, a good neighbor, and will be missed by all who knew her. She leaves to mourn her departure aside from her own children a brother and sister, James Taylor of Anderson, Indiana, and Mrs. Taubman of Groton, S. D., eleven grand children and four great grand childen, and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held from the Haven church conducted by Rev. C. C. Wendby, interment being made in the Haven cemetery.
