Mr. Christ Hempen died at the home, half a mile north of Gladbrook, March 10th, aged 78 years, 3 months and 4 days.

Mr. Hempen was born in the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg, Germany. He emigrated to this country in 1881, and bought the farm on which he has lived unto the time of his death. He was married three times, his last wife dying 3 years ago. He is survived by 6 children, 13 grandchildren, one great grandchild, and also by 3 stepchildren. When the Evangelical church was organized in 1887, he became charter member, and has remained faithful to the same until his death. He was an unobstrusive man of quiet disposition and highly respected by all who knew him.

The funeral was held on Saturday, March 12th, at the Evangelical church. Rev. E. Rall preaching the sermon. Interment was made in the Maple Hill cemetery.
