OBITUARY

R. HAROLD YOUNG

Funeral services for R. Harold Young, 92, of Traer were held Monday, Aug. 8, 1994, at the United Presbyterian Church in Traer with burial in Buckingham Cemetery, rural Traer. He died Thursday, Aug. 4, at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer.

The Rev. Rick Vesely officiated at the service with Nancy Mitchell serving as organist. Vocalists were Jean Staker and Ellen Kern and Joel Harris served as bagpiper.

Casket bearers were Sam Young, Roy Kern, Russell Drinovsky, Keith Earley, Leonard Vorba, and Burdell Staker. Serving on the flower committee were Mr. and Mrs. Murray Whannel and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Wolfgram.

Robert Harold Young was born at Traer on April 14, 1902, the son of John W. and Jennie E. (Dougan) Young. He received his education in Traer, graduating from Traer High School in the Class of 1919. Harold continued his education at Monmouth College in Illinois, graduating in 1924. He then returned home to farm.

Harold was united in marriage to Grace Romick on June 2, 1934, at Amity United Presbyterian Church. The couple made their home at Traer all their married life.

Harold was an active member of the Traer community having served on the Traer School Board of Education and the Farmers Elevator Board of Directors. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and an elder at the United Presbyterian Church and had served as Clerk of the Session. Harold was an active farmer most of his life.

Harold and Grace retired to their new home on Crestview Drive in 1978 and more recently made their home at Sunrise Terrace.

Preceding Harold in death were his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Grace of Traer; one son, James and his wife Donna of Traer; one daughter, Dorothy and her husband, Allen Voetberg of Bettendorf; one sister, Marion Young of Mars, PA, three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

Overton Family Funeral Home-Traer, was in charge of arrangements.
