OBITUARY

WEBSTER LATTING

Webster Latting, 84, of Waterloo and formerly of Traer, died Sunday, March 9, 2003 at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center in Waterloo following an extended illness.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning, Maarch 12, 2003 at the United Presbyterian Church in Traer officiated by the Rev. Rick Vesely. Burial was in West Union Cemetery, rural Traer. Military graveside rites were conducted by the Traer American Legion. A memorial fund has been established.

Webster Arville Latting was born June 20, 1918, at Cord, AR, the son of Orville and Lucy (Darringer) Latting. As a child his family moved to Iowa and he attended school in Traer, then at Mt. Auburn High School, graduating in 1936.

On June 18, 1938, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Parkhouse at Vinton, IA. The couple made their home in rural Garrison and in Waterloo for a short time. In 1941 they moved to Traer where Web worked for Boettcher's Furniture and later owned Web's Floor Covering.

In 1944, he entered the US Army and served in Rhineland, Central Europe during World War II.

Following their retirement, Web and Dorothy enjoyed spending time at their summer home at Rock Creek near Grinnell. In the spring of 1999 they moved to Vinton and more recently moved to Ravenwood Care Center in Waterloo.

Web was a member of Odd Fellows Lodge, Lions Club and the American Legion.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother in infancy.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Waterloo; a daughter, Darlene and her husband, Gary Plogmann of Vinton; a son, Robert and his wife, JoAnn of Grinnell; a brother, Cecil Latting of Evansdale; five sisters, Joy Baker of Dysart, Dorothy White of Marion, Jewel Modrachek of Amana, Donna Holst of California and Irene Kohl of Columbia, MO; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Overton Family Funeral Home-Traer was in charge of arrangements.
