OBITUARY

MARCELLA ESTERS

Funeral services for Marcella Mowery Esters, 89, of Traer, will beheld Thursday, May 28 at the United Methodist Church in Traer at 10:30 a.m., with burial at Riverside Cemetery. Marshalltown. She died Monday, May 25,1992 at Allen Memonal hospital in Waterloo after a brief illness. Officiating at the funeral service will be the Revs. Dan and Martha Anderson. Organist is Joleen Harrington and vocalist is Wayne Dunlavey. Casket bearers are Max Morrison, Denny Berger, Mark, Keefer, Neil Donald, Harold Vorba and Leonard Vorba. Tending to floral tributas will be Nancy Pinkston and Norma Powell.

Marcella Mowery Esters, was born at Traer, IA, Feb. 2, 1903, the daughter of John and Martha (Lafferty) Mowery. She received her education in Traer, graduating from Traer High School in the Class of 1920. She took advanced studies at the University of Iowa and later attended Northwestern University at Evanston, Ill. where she studied speech. She obtained her Masters degree from Northwestern.

On Feb. 16, 1935, she was united in marriage to William Esters at Waterloo, and they made their home in State Center, Grundy Center and Marshalltown, where she taught speech. After William's death on Feb. 18, 1955, Marcella moved to Fayette, IA., and taught drama at Upper Iowa University.

After she retired, she moved back to Traer, where she taught, wrote and directed centennial pageants for several area communities. She was also an active member of the Traer United Methodist Church and the UMW, the Kubik-Finch Legion Auxiliary, the Traer Women's Club, and EC Chapter P.E.O. She served on the Traer Library Board and was a founding supporter of the Traer Museum.

Marcella was preceded in death by her parents; he husband William; two brothers, Gaye and Hugh, and two sisters, Hazel Christen and Julia Otterman. She is survived by nieces and nephews, friends and admirers. Overton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
