Victor Hass

Funeral services for Victor Paul Hass, 78, of Omaha, Nebraska were held Friday, March 4 in that city. Mrs. Hass Died March 1 (1988).

Officiating at the service was the Rev. Samuel S. Elliston, with Mr. Hass’s daughter, the Rev. Susan Faunce-Zimmerman of Traer, giving a message at the service.

Mr. Hass was book editor of the World Herald, leading Omaha newspaper. He also wrote more tan 1,800 essays under the heading “Leaves from a Bookman’s Notebook.” The essays spanned the period from the early 1940’s to the mid-1970’s. In 1972, the World Herald collected and published a number of his pieces in a book bearing the title of the column.

Hass had retired in May of 1971 as a regular member of the newspapers staff, where his main occupation was as an editor on the day copy desk. He continued as book reviewed and essayist until August of 1975.

Hass’ wife, Gladys died in September. Other survivors, besides the Traer pastor, were his two sons, Paul of Madison, Wisconsin and Christopher of Omaha.

Traer people attending the services included family members, along with Marion and Faye Berger, Irma Weaver, Cyndy Butts and Arlene Tuffree.
