Thomas Berhow Is Accident Victim

Thomas Michael Berhow, 82, of Ames, former Huxley resident, was killed and two others were injured in the collision of an auto and the tractor portion of a semi-trailer at an intersection a mile and a half south of Cambridge Saturday evening about 6:30. John Ramsey of Ames, driver of the car, escaped injury. The other occupants of the car were Mrs. John Ramsey, who was injured seriously and was taken to the Mary Greeley hospital in Ames, and McCall Hillestad of Cambridge, who was less seriously injured.

Mr. Berhow has been making his home in Ames the past year with his daughter, Mrs. Laird Harris. Born Oct. 4, 1866, in Norway. Mr. Berhow had been a resident of Story county since 1885, most which time he had been engaged in farming. He was married Mar. 9, 1892, to Ella Birkestrand in the Fjeldberg Lutheran church in Huxley. She preceded him in death a year ago, passing away at Huxley.

Survivors, besides his daughter in Ames, are three sons, Milford of Ames, John of Des Moines and Henry of California, and four other daughters, Mrs. Clarence Apland of California, Mrs. Ed Maland and Mrs. Willard Ryan [should be Ryen], both of Des Moines, and Mrs. Roy Chelsvig [should be Chelesvig] of Eagle Grove.

Funeral rites were held yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon. Services were held at the Adams chapel in Ames and the Fjeldberg Lutheran church in Huxley. Rev. O. C. Hellekson, recently retired pastor, was in charge of services. Burial was at the Huxley cemetery.
