CECELIA SWENSON

Cecelia Swenson, 89, of Nevada, IA, died Tuesday, December 22, 1987, at Story County Hospital, where she had been a resident at Long Term Care.

Memorial services were held Thursday, December 24, at the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada with Rev. Don Rothweiler officiating. Burial was in the Nevada Cemetery.

Cecelia Swenson was born January 20, 1899, in Story County to Sam and Betsy (Wicks) Swenson. She was never married.

She graduated from Nevada High School as valedictorian in 1916. She received her bachelor of science and her master's degrees from Drake University and had worked toward a doctorate in education.

She was a retired schoolteacher, having taught in various public school systems in north central Iowa. She had also worked for several retail clothing stores in the Newton and Ames areas.

She was a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.

Survivors include one sister, Birdella Swenson, of Nevada; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Keneal Swenson, of Nevada; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and two brothers.

Visitation was Wednesday, Dec. 23, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Cooper Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada.
