INSANE PATIENT JUMPED TO DEATH

MRS. MARTHA SLATTUM FATALLY INJURED IN AN ESCAPE ATTEMPT

The dead body of Mrs. Martha Slattum, 88, insane patient at the Story county infirmary, was found on the ground beneath the window of her second story room at the county institution early tis morning.

The woman, who had been an inmate of the infirmary for many years, had evidently got up during the night, dressed herself and in some almost unbelievable manner worked her way through the bars of the window and dropped to the ground below, sustaining fatal injuries in the fall.

Mrs. Slattum, who has been at the institution for many years, was committed from the McCallsburg community. She leaves one brother, whose home is at Scarville, a niece at Scarville, and possibly other relatives.

Earl McCord, steward of the county home, made inquiry regarding the relatives of the unfortunate woman and it was announced this afternoon that the funeral services would be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 at the Morfoot Funeral home and burial will be in the Nevada cemetery.
