Julia Olson was born Sept. 18, 1850, at Skaanevig, Norway, coming to America with her parents at the age of seven years she settle at Lisbon, Ill.

She later moved to Benton county, Iowa, where she was united in marriage to Thomas Mason on Jan. 27th, 1872. They lived in Benton county until the spring of 1901, then moving to Story City where they made their home until last September. Since then they have made their home with their daughter, Mrs. Christ Risdal, where she died at the age of 72 years, 9 months and 10 days on June 27, 1923.

Seven children were born to them, one namely, Martin, having died at the age of six years. Those living are: William Mason, Madison, Minn.; Mrs. Anna Ellingson, Norway, Iowa; Mrs. Bertha Dyrland, Ames; Mrs. Linda Risdall, Roland; Mrs. Minnie Sutton, Des Moines, and Milton Olson, of Des Moines, whom she raised as her own child since he was three years old.

She also has thirty grandchildren and two great grandchildren and three sisters and one brother living, namely: Mrs. Peterson of Vinton, Mrs. Rystad of Rembrandt, Mrs. Halverson of Lisbon, N. D., and Mrs. John Olson.

All the children, except William, were present at her bedside before her death, and all were present at the funeral, which was held in the Immanuel church on Monday afternoon.

Peaceful be thy silent slumber,
Peaceful in thy grave so low,
Thou no more our sorrows know
Yet again we hope to meet thee
When the day of life is fled,
And in Heaven to greet three,
Where no farewell tears are shed.
