THE TRI-COUNTY TIMES, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, February 19, 2009.

Eleaner Schaudt of 801 Arlington Dr, Marshalltown, IA, passed away on February 10th after a six year battle with cancer. Funeral services were held Friday, February 13th at the First Presbyterian Church in Marshalltown.
In lieu of flowers, Eleaner requested memorials be directed to: Slater Historical Association, First Presbyterian Church of Marshalltown, Iowa River Hospice, or Holden Cancer Center for Research at the Univ. of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.

Eleaner Naomi was born on December 28, 1934 to Nels and Ethel (Weeks) Vespestad. She was raised on farms outside of Kelly and Slater, IA. In 1952 she graduated from Slater High School where she played the trombone and participated in the school plays. Following high school, Eleaner spent 3 years in Des Moines working for Western Mutual Insurance.

On August 17, 1955, Eleaner married Gerald Schaudt at the Little Brown Church of Nashua. Eleaner and her family lived in Cedar Falls, Rossie, and Sac City, IA prior to moving to Marshalltown. She worked as a teacher aide at Fisher Elementary for 26 years.

Eleaner was a member of the First Presbyterian church, serving on many committees. She taught Sunday School and Hope Chapel, was a member of two Bible studies and the Elizabeth Circle, was a Trustee, Elder, Deacon, and CE Leader. She also volunteered at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center and belonged to the MMSC Auxiliary.

Eleaner very much enjoyed music, sewing, quilting, baking, outhouse humor, P. Buckley Moss paintings, and visiting with her many friends and family. She was a true Norwegian.

Eleaner is survived by her husband, Gerald; children and grandchildren: Wanda Sporrer (Kurt, Kim, Kevin) of Carroll, IA; Brenda (Greg), Jared, and Alissa Kirsteatter, of Troy Grove, IL; Sonda (Wade) Kirsteatter of Marion, IA; Dana (Donna) Kaitlyn, Karissa, Kollin, and Kara Schaudt of Pella; and Gary Schaudt of Marshalltown.

She is also survived by two brothers and two sisters: Marilyn Dotts of Indianola and her children Alan, Brian, and Nancy; Hubert (Peggy) Vespestad of Farrar and their sons Kirk, Scott, and Andy; Helen (Lenny) Ringgenberg of Des Moines and their children Todd, Cindy, and Shelly; Robert (Summer) Vespestad of Slater and their children Lenna, Erik, and Luke.

She is also survived by sister-in-law Helen Schaudt, nephews Bill and Karl Schaudt, and niece Karen Schaudt; sister-in-law Lucy Schaudt and her children Tonia, Mary Jane, Barb, and Mark; sister-in-law Janice (Glenn) Roxberg and their children Lynn, Lorie, Sue Ann, and Steve.

She was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-laws William and Alma Schaudt; son-in-law Jerry Sporrer; brother-in-laws Wayne Dotts, Bill Schaudt, and King Schaudt; and sister-in-law Fern Schaudt.

Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater assisted the family with arrangements.
