Hello,
I’m trying to find out information about my great aunt Tena Johanna Michelke, who I was told went to Alton, IA to have a baby that was going to be put up for adoption. Tena apparently died in childbirth, giving birth to a daughter. I believe this was January 20, 1920. Tena was from Ramona, SD at that time. She was sent there to have her baby. From what I was told, Tina was 26, and this may have been at a Catholic convent/hospital and they would find an adoptive family. I can’t find info if there was anything other than “Sisters of Charity” from the civil War. I want to know if she died in Alton. Family Records say she died in Ramona, SD. I think they were altered to protect the family from shame. I was also told that this little baby was then taken by the Michelke family and returned to SD. So there was no adoption. Thanks for any information you can provide.
