Rock Valley, IA: Geneva Burggraaf, 90, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Monday, July 29, 2024, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 1, at 11:30 AM at Calvin Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley with Rev. Gideon Wamala officiating. The service can be livestreamed at https://calvincrcrv.org/watch-live/. Visitation, with the family present, will be held prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 AM at the church. Private family burial will be held at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley prior to services. A public viewing, with no family present, will be held Wednesday, July 31, at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley from 4:30-8:00 PM.

Memorials may be given to Rock Valley Christian School. Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements for Mrs. Burggraaf.

Geneva Burggraaf, the daughter of Peter and Anna (Jansma) Statema, was born July 24, 1934, near Ireton, Iowa. She attended a country school near Ireton. Attended, and graduated from Ireton High School in 1951. She then attended, and graduated from Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa with a teaching degree. She taught in Volga, South Dakota Christian School, and Rock Valley Christian School.

Geneva spent most of her life loving and caring for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

If you knew Geneva, you received her smile, a cookie, a piece of pie, a piece of cake, or whatever she happened to be baking that day! If you remember the Towne House Family Restaurant, now the Cedar Rock Grill, you may have had her famous pies, bread pudding, salads, or cream puffs.

Geneva married William Peter Burggraaf on March 23, 1960. Geneva is survived by her children: son, Les (Kim) Burggraaf of Rock Valley, Iowa; son in-law, Doug Van Engen of Orange City, Iowa; daughter, Sharon (Paul) De Groot of St. Louis, Missouri; daughter, Audrey (Doug) Broek of Ireton, Iowa; and son, Harlan (Sara) Burggraaf of Omaha, Nebraska. Grandchildren: Tyler Burggraaf, Nicole Van Beek, Paige Elbers, Larissa Van Dyke, Danielle Kuiken, Dylan Van Engen, Brianna De Groot, Joshua De Groot, Luke De Groot, Nathan Broek, Lindsey Kostelyk, Mikaela Broek, Jacey Burggraaf, and Emmy Burggraaf. Great-grandchildren: Ruxin Burggraaf, Asher Burggraaf, Tate Burggraaf, Paisley Elbers, Piper Elbers, Crew Elbers, Navey Elbers, Sawyer Van Beek, Suttyn Van Beek, Connor Van Dyke, Brynn Van Dyke, Will Van Dyke, Georgia Kuiken, and Huxley Kuiken. Sister, Pricilla Huizenga and brother-in-law, Otto Huizenga; sister in-law, Bertha Statema; sister in-law, Barb Brands; brother in-law and sister in-law, Jim and Joyce Burggraaf; sister in-law, Joanne Born; and brother in-law and sister in-law, Bob and Arlene Vanden Top.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Burggraaf; daughter, Brenda Van Engen; son in infancy, Rodney; father and mother, Peter and Anna Statema; father and mother in-law, Peter and Ada Burggraaf; brothers, John, Art, Frank, Clarence, and Pete Statema; and sisters, Ann Zomermaand, Betty Sikma, and Madelyne Huizenga.
