Mr. Dennis Burgers, age 64, of Hull, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024, in Sheldon.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Monday, September 30, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Hull Protestant Reformed Church in Hull. A prayer service will take place on Tuesday, October 1, at 9:30am, at the church followed by interment at the Hillside Cemetery near Doon. There will be a memorial service on Tuesday, at 11:00am, at the church with the Rev. Stephan Regnerus officiating. The Oolman Funeral Home in Hull is in charge of arrangements.

Dennis Gene, the son of Dick and Gertrude (Van Beek) Burgers, was born on May 8, 1960. He grew up on farms in rural Ireton and Alvord and graduated from high school in 1978. He furthered his education at Northwest Iowa Technical College in Sheldon, focusing on construction and drafting.

On December 22, 1987, he was united in marriage to Lorelei R. Van Engen. They made their home in Hull, where they were blessed with the gift of their four children. In earlier years, Dennis worked for Poppema-Sikma Construction and for the past twenty years, he worked as a draftsman at Neal Chase Lumber Company in Sheldon.

Mr. Burgers was a member of the Hull Protestant Reformed Church, where he was active on the church council, participated in the Men’s Society, and served on numerous committees and boards for both the church and the Protestant Reformed Schools.

His deep love for God, family, the church, and his fellow saints, was evident by his example both at work and at home.

He enjoyed woodworking, reading, and peaceful time enjoying creation.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of almost 37 years, Lorelei, of Hull; three daughters, Danielle, and her husband, Kevin Warner, of Hull; Larissa, and her husband, Matthew Vanden Bosch, of Harrisburg, South Dakota; and Dana Burgers, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; a son and his wife, Derk and Katrina Burgers, of Hull; thirteen grandchildren, Jackson, Brennan, Macy, and Harper Warner; Brielle, Mataya, Camden, and Teagan Vanden Bosch; Aubrey and Dylan Burgers; and Aleah, Addy, and Kade Burgers; three sisters and their husbands, Celia and Rodney Heckathorn, Helen and John Vlastuin, and Mary and Floyd Van Den Top; his mother-in-law, Jeanette Van Engen; and two brothers-in-law and their wives, Randy and Rosey Van Engen, and Brian and Stephanie Van Engen; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Harlan Van Engen; two nephews, and a great nephew.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family for future designation.
