Harlan Tiedeman was born January 6, 1944 in Rock Rapids, Iowa to Berend and Josephine (Kaster) Tiedeman. He died January 8, 2024 at Bethesda Care Center in Beresford, South Dakota at the age of 80 years.

Harlan was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Hull, IA and graduated from Boyden-Hull High School in 1962. Harlan joined the 185th Air National Guard Fighter Wing and was stationed in New Mexico during the Vietnam War, he was honorably discharged in 1969.

Harlan married Dorothy Ravenswaay on June 27, 1969. They made a home to start their family in Hull. After a few years, they moved out to the family farm near Hull. In 1979, they bought a farm and moved the family near Beresford, SD where they continued to farm and raise livestock. Along with all of that, he was extremely proud to be a part of the American Legion Riders Association. Harlan loved the open road on his Honda Goldwing trike where he and Dorothy enjoyed going to supper and other activities with fellow bikers.

He was a hard-working husband and father; always making sure to provide for his family. He loved attending the various activities, sporting events, school and church programs of all his grandchildren. He enjoyed working in his yard, growing tomatoes, golfing with his sons, sons-in-law and grandkids, and many afternoons you could find him enjoying a cup of coffee with his friends somewhere in town.
