From the Alton Democrat, December 6, 1940, Rock Valley news:

Mrs. Harry Postma (nee Margaret Jones), former resident of Rock Valley, passed away at her home at 1328 Jennings St. in Sioux City Monday, Nov. 25, at the age of 72. Mrs. Postma was born in Spring Green, Wis., and came to Rock Valley where she lived until twenty years ago when the family moved to Sioux City. She leaves to mourn her passing her widower, Harry Postma, four daughters and one son: Mrs. B. F. Butcher and Sadie, Mrs. Harold Lincoln of Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Charles Belt and Miss Iva Postma of Sioux City and Edward Postma of Sioux City. She was laid to rest in Memorial Park cemetery with funeral services held at Anderson’s Chapel, conducted by Rev. W. R. Moore of the Morningside Presbyterian church.

RESEARCH NOTES

The Rock Valley Bee has only a brief notice of her death.

Her death certificate (informant Ed Postma) adds her birth date, July 20, 1868; died at 4:00[?] p.m. November 25, 1940; cause, coronary occlusion.

Her FindaGrave.com page has her as Margaret “Maggie” Jones Postma and adds her husband’s life dates, Harry A. Postma (1876-1949) and a photo of their joint headstone.

The 1925 Iowa state census gives her parents as William D. and Eliza Jones, both born in Wales.

The Sioux County marriage register for 1898 has groom Harry Postma, age 23, resident of Rock Valley, a teacher, born in Pella, Iowa, parents Gerrit D. Postma and Diebertje Leeksma; bride Maggie C. Jones, age 24[?], resident of Rock Valley, born in Spring Green, Wis., parents William Jones and Elizabeth Jones, married in Orange City October 21, 1898.

The 1920 U.S. census shows the Postma family living in Rock Rapids, Lyon County: Harry A. (45), keeper of a rooming house, Maggie (46), children Elva A. (20, born in South Dakota), Sadie E. (19), Vivian E. (18), Eddie H. (14), and Iva E. (9), all born in Iowa, and four lodgers. In 1900 they had been farming in Sioux Township, Sioux County; and in 1910 he had been a rural route mail carrier in Rock Valley. By 1925 they were in Sioux City, and in 1930 the couple was living with their youngest daughter Ivah E. and four lodgers, where Harry was an employment bureau manager.
