Former Resident Here Is Called

Mrs. S. Vander Woude of Sioux Falls, former resident of Rock Valley, died Wednesday morning. Funeral services will be held at Sioux Falls in St. Mary’s church there, on Saturday morning at 9 o’clock.

Mrs. Vander Woude was 68 years of age. She grew up here and is known to a great many in this community, moving to Sioux Falls where most of the family reside about twenty years ago. She was an aunt of Barney Siemonsma of this vicinity.

FUNERALS – MRS. S. W. VANDER WOUDE

A funeral mass was said at 9 a.m. today at St. Joseph’s cathedral for Mrs. S. W. Vander Woude, 67, who died at her farm home west of the city Tuesday. Interment was made in the local Catholic cemetery. Pallbearers were six nephews, Albert, Harry, Gerard and Joseph Siemonsma, all of Sioux Falls, and George and Elmer Siemonsma, both of Hartford.

Surviving are the widower, four sons, three daughters, one brother, one sister, and 12 grandchildren. The Barnett funeral chaped was in charge.

Her FindaGrave.com page has Matilda “Tillie” Siemonsma Vander Woude, born 2 Nov 1872 in Franekeradeel Municipality, Friesland, Netherlands; died 29 Oct 1940 in Sioux Falls, Minnehaha County, South Dakota; buried in Saint Michael Catholic Cemetery, Sioux Falls. There is a photo of her headstone. Spouse Sies W. Vander Woude (1878-1952). Six children listed: Mathilda M. Vander Woude Aschoff (1900-1978), William Vander Woude (1905-1988), Albert Sies Vander Woude (1906-1988), Minnie Josephine Vander Woude Schenk (1910-1982), Irene Minnie Vander Woude Gaddis (1913-1987), John Cecil Vander Woude (1914-1983).

The 1940 census shows Sies W. Vander Woude (61) and wife Tillie (66), both born in Holland and naturalized, children Minnie R. (28) and John S. (25), John’s wife and daughter, and a hired man farming in Wayne Township, Minnehaha County, South Dakota.
