From the Alton Democrat, July 19, 1940, Granville news:

Funeral services for Lois Jean Dougherty, age 10 years, who passed away at the home of her parents Saturday afternoon following an extended illness, were held Tuesday morning at the St. Boniface Catholic church at 9:30 o’clock with Rev. Frederick Beck officiating. Burial took place at Calvary cemetery.

Lois Jean was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dougherty, former restaurant operators at Granville. Six years ago the family moved to Sioux City where Mr. Dougherty is employed. Deceased was a student in the St. Boniface parochial school. Surviving besides the sorrowing parents is an older sister, Mary Ann. Mrs. Will Klassen and Mrs. F. P. Van Bergen of Granville are the little girl’s aunts.

From the Sioux City Journal, July 14, 1940:

Funeral services for Lois Jean Dougherty, 11-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold F. Dougherty, 511 Rebecca street, who died Saturday at her parents’ home following a long illness, were held Tuesday at St. Boniface Catholic church. Rev. Oswin Kemper officiated. Burial was in Calvary cemetery under the direction of the O’Toole-Gunn funeral home. Six cousins of the girl, Margaret Coughlin, Mary Jane and Kathleen Cody, Mary Ellen and Ruth Van Bergen and Louella Kuhl, were pallbearers.

Her death certificate gives her birth date as Oct. 9, 1928, in Granville, Iowa; parents Harold Dougherty, born in Sheldon, Iowa, and Mae T. Kuhl, born in Haverhill, Iowa; resident of Sioux City 7 years; died at 8 p.m. July 13, 1940; cause, lymphatic leukemia, duration 1 year.
