From the Sioux Center News, March 30, 1983:

Elizabeth Vander Ziel, 93, of Sioux Center died Thursday in the hospital nursing wing in Sioux Center. Services were held Monday in the Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. John Hellinga officiated. Burial was in the Memory Garden Cemetery.

Miss Vander Ziel was born Nov. 2, 1889, in the Netherlands. She came to the United States to Sioux Center at the age of 16. She was a seamstress. She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

The same obituary was published in the Sioux County Capital (March 23) and the Sioux County Index (March 23). An obituary issued by the Memorial Funeral Home, Sioux Center, adds that she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Vander Ziel; came to the United States in 1905; is survived by two nieces, Mrs. Henrietta (Harry Hoogeveen of Lester, Iowa and Mrs. Bertha Harsma of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

The Sioux County Cemetery Index has Vander Ziel, Elizabeth, born 2 Nov. 1889, died about 27[i.e., 17] March 1983, Memory Gardens, Sioux Center IA (GSCGS obit). Her FindaGrave.com page includes a photo of her headstone.

Her parents’ obituaries (posted separately) show her to have been the daughter of Egbert and Lubbigje (Post) Vander Ziel; immigrated to the U.S. and Sioux Center in 1908; lived with her parents until their deaths (Lubbigje in 1935 and Egbert in 1939); and was employed as a dressmaker or seamstress. In the 1940 census she was living alone in the same house, had attained an 8th grade education, had taken out her citizenship first papers, was still working as a seamstress out of her own home, which she owned (worth $1500), and had other sources of income.
