Obituary Mrs. Reurt De Groot

Mrs. Reurt De Groot passed away very suddenly last Wednesday evening, Sept. 8, 1943, following a heart attack. She had reached the age of 69 years and 10 months. Burial was delayed until Wednesday so their son John could get here from California where he is stationed with the U.S. Army.

She is survived by her husband and eight children: Dick De Groot of Sioux Center, Elsie (Mrs. John Ver Burg) of Sioux Center, Tillie (Mrs. Peter Veneklausen) of Watertown, S.D., Gertrude (Mrs. Peter J. Balkema) of Orange City, John De Groot, who is in the service stationed at Los Angeles, Calif., Cornelius De Groot of Sheldon, Pearl (Mrs. Wilton Brower) of Denver, Colo. and Jessie (Mrs. Clarence Bjork) of Riverside, Calif. She was preceded in death by a grown daughter Jennie (Mrs. Case Schipper) who passed away at her home in Ireton a few years ago.

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon, Sept. 13, 1943 at the home and at the First Christian Ref. Church. Rev. O. Breen of the Second Christian Ref. Church had charge of the services, in the absence of Rev. Arnoys.

MRS. REURT DE GROOT

Mrs. Reurt De Groot nee Pietje Katze, 69, passed away suddenly last Wednesday evening Sept. 8 at her home in Sioux Center following a heart attack. She had not been ill previously and her passing away came very unexpectedly.

Mrs. De Groot was born at St. Ana the Netherlands on Nov. 3, 1873 and came to America in the year 1891. In 1892 she married Reurt De Groot of Sioux Center who survives her. She was preceded in death by a grown daughter, Mrs. Case Schipper of Ireton 4 years ago. Eight children survive. They are Dick De Groot of Ireton; Elsie, Mrs. John Vander Burg of Sioux Center; Tillie, Mrs. Peter Veneklausen of Watertown, S.D.; Gertrude, Mrs. Peter Balkema of Orange City; John R. De Groot at present in the service of the country; Cornelius De Groot of Sheldon; Pearl, Mrs. Wilton Brower of Denver, Colo.; Jessie, Mrs. Clarence Bjork of Riverside, Calif.

Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the home and at 2 p.m. at the First Chr. Ref. church in Sioux Center with Rev. O. Breen of the Sec. Chr, Ref. church officiating in the absence of the pastor Rev. Arnoys. Interment was made at Sioux Center Wednesday. Pfc. John De Groot arrived from Los Angeles, Calif. on Tuesday evening.

Her death certificate (informant Dick De Groot) has Mrs. Petje de Groot, wife of R. de Groot; born Nov. 3, 1873 in St. Ana, Netherlands; parents Gerrit Katze and Jennie Meyer; died at 7:45 p.m. September 8, 1943; cause, angina pectoris; buried at Sioux Center.

Her FindaGrave.com has Pietje De Groot, born 3 Nov 1873, died 8 Sep 1943, buried in Memory Gardens, Sioux Center; parents Gerrit Katje (1840-1905) and Japje Meijer Katje (1840-1912); six siblings listed; spouse Reurt De Groot (1868-1963). There is a photo of her headstone.
