From the Cedar County News (Hartington, Nebraska), February 15, 1940:

MRS. CECILIA BRANDOW BURIED HERE SATURDAY
Brief Rites Held at Grave for Former Hartington Resident

Mrs. Cecilia Brandow, 76, formerly a resident of the Hartington community for 35 years, was buried Saturday at the Hartington Public cemetery under the direction of Reifert’s funeral service. Brief rites were held at the grave with Rev. C. H. Braskamp, pastor of the Presbyterian church in Sioux City, officiating. Mrs. Brandow died February 7 from complications resulting from a broken hip suffered six weeks ago.

Mrs. Brandow was born in Sac City, Ia., June 12, 1863. In 1880, she married Albert Brandow of the Rose Hill community near Hartington. Since Mr. Brandow’s death in 1915, she has made her home with her three children, a son, C. G. Brandow of Sioux City, and her daughters, Mrs. Mabel Benson of Sioux City and Mrs. Maude Barge of Tekamah.

Her death certificate (informant Mrs. A. W. Barge) has Cecilia Mary Brandow, widow of Albert; born June 12, 1863 in Sac City, Iowa; parents Addison Lee and Mary (no surname); residence 210 N. 16th, Tekamah, Burt County, Nebraska; died in St. Joseph Hospital, Sioux City, where she had been a patient 6 weeks, at 11:50 a.m. February 7, 1940; cause, acute right cardiac dilatation, duration 1 minute; due to chronic myocarditis with auricular fibrillation, duration 2+ years; other conditions: Parkinson’s Disease, duration 6+ years, and healed fracture of neck of right femur, duration 6 weeks.

[Transcriber’s note: Her obituaries and U.S. and state census records indicate that she never lived in Sioux County. Her obituary in the Hawarden Independent was apparently published there to accompany that of her daughter-in-law, Signa (Mrs. C. G.) Brandow, who had died just a few days previously and had as a girl been a resident of Hawarden for some years, and because her granddaughter was a Hawarden resident.]
