Rock Valley, IA: Edwin Van Ginkel, 90, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Monday, December 6, 2021, at Hegg Health Center in Rock Valley, surrounded by his family. Memorial services will be held Thursday, December 9, at 11:00 AM at the Hull Protestant Reformed Church in Hull, Iowa with Rev. Allen Brummel officiating. The service can be livestreamed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oo3N0mPF69I. Burial will be held prior to the service at Hillside Cemetery of Doon, Iowa with a prayer service beginning at 9:30 AM at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley. Visitation, with the family present, will be held Wednesday, December 8, from 5:30-7:30 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley. Memorials may be given to the Northwest Iowa Protestant Reformed School or Trinity Christian High School.

Edwin Van Ginkel, son of William and Mary (Koedam) Van Ginkel, was born July 19, 1931, on a farm southeast of Doon, Iowa. He attended Rock Valley Elementary and country school through the eighth grade. He helped build grain bins as a teenager. Ed married Alice Van Den Top on October 6, 1950, at her parents’ house near Doon. Together they lived in Rock Valley, Iowa from 1950 to 1974. He began working at Kooima Manufacturing in 1950, eventually becoming part owner with five gentlemen. In 1974 they moved to a farm near Doon until they built a home in Doon in 1993 where they resided until March 2020 when they moved to Four Seasons in Rock Valley.

Ed was very active in the Doon Protestant Reformed Church and school activities. He served his church faithfully many times as elder and deacon. He was very active in the men’s society. Ed helped organize Northwest Iowa Protestant Reformed School in Doon, where he also served as a school board member. Ed loved his family dearly and always kept an interest in his children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s happenings. He enjoyed fishing with family and friends. Ed also enjoyed playing pool and other table games with family and friends. He loved to travel with his wife, especially to see family in Washington. Ed participated in a missionary trip to Singapore in 1982 to help establish a church.

Ed is survived by his 4 children, Marlowe (Pamela) Van Ginkel, Marshonn (Warren) Boon, both of Rock Valley, Warren (Cheryl) Van Ginkel of Doon, and Joel (Natalie) Van Ginkel of Hull, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Wilma Van Beek of Rock Valley, and Leola Bakker of Hull; and brother, Gerald (Marcia) Van Ginkel of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; parents, William and Mary; and brothers-in-law, Mease Van Beek and Henry Bakker.
