Mrs. Jacoba Rens, age 92, of Hull, passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at the Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center.

There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, April 6, at 10:00am, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Loren Kotman will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation with the family will be on Monday, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, in the church fellowship hall, on the lower level. Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Jacoba Caroline was born on June 21, 1928, in Perkins, the daughter of Herbert and Hattie (Kuhl) Koel. She was raised in Perkins and attended the Wheeler No.9 country school near Maurice through the eighth grade.

On April 1, 1949, she was united in marriage to Albertus “Albert” John Rens. They made their home on a farm near Hull, where they raised their seven children, LaVonne, Gwendolyn, Harlan, Gerald, Leon, Eleanor, and Greg. In 2017, they retired and in May of 2020, they became residents of the Aspen Heights Assisted Living facility in Hull. Albert passed away on January 23, 2021, in Sioux Center, after more than 71 years of marriage.

Jacoba was a dedicated mother and farmer’s wife. She also worked for many years as a cook at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and canning her produce, as well as square dancing with her husband.

Survivors include her seven children and their spouses; LaVonne and Larry Sietstra, of Boyden; Gwen and Hal Congdon, of Littleton, CO; Harlan and Sandy Rens, of Sioux Falls, SD; Gerald and Kate Rens, of Rock Valley; Leon and Charlotte Rens, of Hull; Eleanor and Rick Kiers, of Hull; and Greg and Jessica Rens, of Hull; nineteen grandchildren; Lorayne (Matt) Middendorp, Luke (Amy) Sietstra, Link Sietstra, Ben Congdon, Jennifer Congdon, Tricia (Chad) Mandery, Dana Schmidt, Andrew (Shelli) Rens, Nick (Bethany) Rens, Jeffery (Courtney) Rens, Marcus Rens, Cody (Shelby) Kiers, Kelly (Brian) Sipma, Brittany (Jordan) Holtrop, Heather (Thomas) Hofmeyer, Emalee Rens, Baily Kramer, Lucas Kramer, and Logan Kramer; twenty-five great-grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Anne and Cornie Jansen, of Hull; a brother and his wife, Derrick and Sally Koel, of Sioux Center; two sisters-in-law, Lorna Koel, of Madison, SD, and Evelyn “Evie” Rens, of Hills, MN; a brother-in-law and his wife, Delmar and Mae Rens, of Sun Valley, CA; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Jennie Koel; an infant brother; two brothers, C. Delphus Koel, of Madison, SD, and Donald Koel, and his wife, Marjorie, of Denver, CO; four sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.

Memorials may be directed to Hope Haven in Rock Valley or Village Northwest Unlimited in Sheldon.
