From the Sioux County Capital, October 28, 1937:

MRS. OELRICH DIES

The Oelrich family received a telegram Wednesday from Mound, Minn. telling of the death of Mrs. Fred Oelrich. Her maiden name was Zua Seaton and her father was steam engineer for the first light plant which was located south of the depot. Many of the older residents will remember the family.

Mr. and Mrs. George Oelrigh of Orange City and Mrs. Wm. Oelrich and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Oelrich of Hull attended the funeral of Mrs. Fred Oelrich at Mound, Minn., Friday.

Oelrich Rites Held Friday

Funeral services for Mrs. Fred J. Oelrich, 64, who died at the University hospital last Tuesday evening after an illness of several months, were held from the Calvary Memorial Chapel in Navarre on Friday afternoon, the Rev. O. G. Lewis officiating. Rev. Lewis was assisted at the interment ceremonies by Mrs. Mae Bernstein, chaplain, and other members of the local Daughters of Union Veterans unit.

Mrs. Z. O. Seaton Oelrich was born in Charles City, Iowa, on July 8th, 1873. After attending school there she taught several years in Orange City, Iowa. She became the bride of Fred J. Oelrich on March 16, 1892. Following their marriage the couple moved to Springfield, S.D., where they lived for 30 years, moving to Mound in 1932. She was a member of D.U.V. Bartha Henninger tent.

Surviving are her husband; four daughters, Mrs. Ella Homer, Vale, S.D., Mrs. Yute of Springfield, S.D., Mrs. Effie Michel of Clearwater, Minn., Mrs. Florence Messer, Hamel; three sons, Roy, Springfield, Minn., Charles and Jessie of Mound; 30 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Minnesota Death Certificate no. 1937-MN-022660 has Zua Oelrich, resident of Mound, Minnesota, wife of Fred Oelrich, a housewife; born July 8, 1873 in Iowa; parents Cushman Seton and Ella Clark, birthplaces not given; informant, hospital records; died in University Hospital, Minneapolis, at 6:20 p.m. October 26, 1937; cause: coronary sclerosis with complete heart block, duration 3 years; contributory causes: essential hypertension and congestive heart failure; there was an autopsy.

Her FindaGrave.com page has her as Zua Olga Seaton Oelrich; buried in Mound Cemetery, and adds her parents, Peter Newcomb Cushman Seaton (1850-1912) and Ella Genevieve Clark Seaton (1851-1923); one sister, Jennie Cornelia Seaton (1879-1897); husband Fredrick J. Oelrich (1869-1951, married 1893). Four children listed: Roy Elliot Oelrich (1894-1960), Charles August Oelrich (1896-1974), Clara Z. Oelrich Yule (1902-1992), and Effie Cornelia Oelrich Michel (1904-1988). There is a photo of her, and one of her and Fred’s joint footstone.

The Sioux County marriage register for 1892/1893 has groom Fred J. Oelrich, age 24, resident of Orange City; a farmer; born in Buffalo, N.Y.; parents Charles D. Oelrich and Augusta Nusse; bride Zua Olga Seaton, age 20, resident of Orange City, born in Charles City, Iowa, parents Peter N. C. Seaton and Jennie Ella Clark; married in Orange City March 16, 1893.

In the 1910 census for Springfield Precinct, Bon Homme County, S.D., she is a rural route mail carrier, while Fred and their sons work the family farm. In 1920 they are still farming but she has no occupation listed. In 1930 they are still farming in Springfield; none of their children live with them.
