Weyen, Ronald Romain 1935 Hawarden IA -2020 Beresford SD

Ronald Romain Weyen was born April 23, 1935 in rural Hawarden, Iowa to Henry “Hank” and Viola (Marienau) Weyen. He passed away peacefully with his family at his side on June 5, 2020 at Bethesda of Beresford at the age of 85 years, one month and 12 days.

Ronnie was raised on the family farm and he attended country school. He farmed with his father and was a member of the South Dakota Air National Guard. Ronnie married Peggy Ann Lantaff at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Beresford on November 20, 1957. He worked construction in Madison, SD for a short time before returning to farming. He had a grain and livestock farm south of Beresford in Emmet Township until 1964 when the growing family moved to a farm south of Alcester, SD. There they raised their two sons and three daughters. In 1995, Ronnie and Peggy moved into Alcester. His semi-retirement from farming included helping area farmers and driving truck delivering hay from local sales.

He enjoyed participating in tractor pulls, where he was affectionately known as “Big Ron”, as well as collecting toy tractors. Ronnie’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his children, then grandchildren and eventually great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Michael Weyen; an infant daughter, Lori Ann; brother, Richard Weyen; sister, Janet Green; and his beloved dogs, Huey and Max.

Grateful for sharing in his life is his wife of 62 years, Peggy Weyen of Beresford; son, Randy (Jeanne) Weyen of Sioux Falls; three daughters, Rhonda (James) Jurgensen of Sturgis, Kate (Mary Beth) Weyen of Sioux Falls and Mary (Todd) Vander Laan of Beresford; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, his Bethesda family and many, many friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10AM Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Beresford, SD with burial to follow at St. Joseph of Emmet Catholic Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 5-8PM Tuesday at the church with a rosary at 6:45PM and a prayer service at 7PM.
