SiouxLand Press Feb 19, 2020
Gertrude Korbach – On February 15, 2020 Gert passed to the other side. For over 101 years Gertrude Korbach graced the earth with her presence. Daughter of the late Henry and Mary Riek Lins, she entered the world at the family farm in Plain Wisconsin on August 25, 1918. She grew up with her four siblings and her twelve siblings from her father’s second marriage to Anna Hetzel.

Gert married Joseph John Korbach, a Cheesemaker from Hickory Hill Wisconsin, during a snow storm on Januwry 16, 1940 a marriage which lasted for almost 62 years. Gert and Joe moved to Hospers, Iowa, in 1941 where Joe ran the Frank Pilley Cheeee plant.

Joe switched careers becoming a plumber and they moved to Granville, Iowa, in 1952. They both owned and operated Korbach Plumbing and Heating until they retired in 1976. After their retirement they moved to Arkansas, Gert took up golf, singing in church choirs, and continued bowling, crocheting and card playing.

When health issues arose, they moved back to Spring Green Wisconsin, in 1998. Joe passed on Jan 7, 2002, where upon Gert spent the remaining 18 years as a widow.

Gert was a consummate loving wife, store manager, and mother to her three children, Gerry (Dave) Neuroth, Bob (Susan) Korbach, Joanne (Dan) McPhail, seven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers, two sisters, seven sibling spouses, and too many nieces and nephews to enumerate. The Korbach/Lins family appreciated the outpouring of love and support that they have received during this time and would like to express their thanks. Gertrude was truly God’s gift to all of us.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 6, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Spring Green. Fr. John Silva will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 12:00 noon until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. John’s Catholic Church. The Richardson Stafford Funeral home in Spring Green is assisting the family with the arrangements.
