From the Sioux County Index (Hull), December 2, 1938:

Elmer S. Hollister, Former Hull Man, Died at Jasper

Elmer S. Hollister passed away at his home near Jasper, Wednesday evening, November 16, 1938. The funeral services were held Saturday, November 19th, from the home at 1:30 P.M. and from the Methodist Church at 2:00 o’clock, with the Rev. George E. Hamilton in charge.

Elmer S. Hollister was born April 21, 1870, and was 68 years, 6 months and 25 days old at the time of his death. His health had been failing for the past five years. He was born in June County, Wisconsin, and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Hollister.

Mr. Hollister came to Sioux County with his parents at the age of two years. There he lived on his father’s homestead for fifteen years. He then went to Hull, Iowa, and while there attended the Hull Academy. Later he took a homestead in Brule County, South Dakota. A few years following he moved to a farm near Ocheyedan, Iowa, where he taught school for five years.

In 1898 he was united in marriage to Miss Tina Anderson of Goldfield, Iowa. In 1902 he moved to a farm three and one-half miles southwest of Jasper where he lived continuously with the exception of two years, 1936 and 1937, when he lived in Jasper.

To this union were born two sons and two daughters. They with his widow who is in poor health and three grandchildren survive. The children are Arthur, Kenneth, Beatrice and Lucille (Mrs. Oscar Neshelm) all of Jasper.—Jasper (Minnesota) Journal.

RESEARCH NOTES

His FindaGrave.com page shows him buried in Jasper Cemetery, Jasper, Pipestone County, Minnesota, and gives his death date as 15 Nov 1938. There is a photo of the joint headstone of him (Father, Elmer S., 1870-1938) and his wife (Martina R, 1971-1939). No other family data.

Instead of dying in Jasper, which is located in far southwest Minnesota, he apparently died across the border in South Dakota (possibly in a hospital in Sioux Falls?). Ancestry.com has a South Dakota Death Index entry for Elmer S. Hollister, died 16 Nov 1938 in Minnehaha County, South Dakota. There is no entry for him in the Minnesota Death Certificates Index.

The Sioux County marriage register for 1898 has groom Elmer S. Hollister, age 29, residence Ocheydan, a farmer, born in Wisconsin, parents Cyrus Hollister and Mina Trowbridge; bride Tena A. Anderson, age 28, residence Renwick, Iowa, born in Brandsby, Denmark, parents Andrew Anderson and Anna Hausen; married in Hull, May 22, 1898.
