Last week On Wednesday evening, after having been ill and poor health for quite some time, Mr Jan de Zeeuw passed away. The deceased came here in the early seventies and after some years of lived in Pella before he settled in Sioux county. For more than 20 years he was an elder in the First Ref. church here. His widow and 10 children, four of whom are married, survive him. On Saturday, remains were entrusted to the earth.

On Wednesday evening, March 25, Jan De Zeeuw fell asleep in his Savior, Jan De Zeeuw, at the age of almost 70 years leaves a sorrowful widow, 10 children, adults and some married, two brothers and one sister. Born in the Netherlands, South Holland province, he came as a youth with his parents to Pella, Iowa, in 1870 and in 1871 to Sioux County, where the family settled near Middleburg. He was also one of the pioneers, in 1876 he married Driesje Sneller, who now survives him with her children. First at Alton, they have lived under the Sioux Center for the last 29 years and were all those years laden of the first Ref church.

Research note: From a family report on line Jan De Zeeuw born 15 Apr 1844 Ridderkerk Zuid Holland Netherlands die 25 Mar 1914 Sioux Center IA, he was the son of Pleun De Zeeuw 1812-1899 and Elisabeth De Haan 1815-1893. His wife was Driesje Sneller 1852-1938 Children were - Pleum 1876-1954, Maatje 1878, Richard 1880, Elizabeth 1881, Peter 1883, John Arie 1887, Gerritje 1889, Pearl 1891, Annie 1893, and Andrew 1895.
