Mrs. Doris Beaton, age 89, of Orange City, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

There will be a funeral service on Saturday, February 20, at 11:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. The Rev. Mark Haverdink will officiate. Visitation with the family will be on Friday, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the funeral home.

There will be a private memorial service in Deer Park, New York, at a later date. Interment will be at the Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, New York.

Doris Ann was born on October 24, 1931, in Floral Park, New York, the daughter of Edward and Ethel (Schramm) Hayes. She was raised in Ozone Park, New York, where she graduated from John Adams High School.

On November 2, 1956, she married William Wilson Beaton at the Woodhaven Presbyterian Church in Ozone Park, New York. They made their home in the state of New York, where she was a homemaker, and later, a secretary for various companies. In 1988, they retired to Florida, where she enjoyed volunteering with the Florida Center for the Blind. She was active in the First Presbyterian Church (USA) of Crystal River where she was a deacon and elder, as well as an active participant in Presbyterian Women. In Orange City, she was a member of the First Reformed Church. Bill passed away on July 13, 2015, in Orange City, after more than 58 years of marriage.

Doris was an avid knitter, working on a variety of handmade goods for her family. She was known for her sometimes-colorful expressions, baking pies and took pride in her sauerbraten dinners. She loved baseball, adopting the Rays as her team. Family was everything to her. She was proud of her three children and seven grandchildren, having enjoyed watching them all successfully grow into adulthood.

Survivors include her three children and their spouses, Linda Ver Steeg (Harlan) of Orange City; William Beaton (Cindy), of Greenville, New York; and Carol Lenhardt (Chris) of Raleigh, North Carolina; and seven grandchildren, Tim Allen (Julie), Daniel Ver Steeg (Erika), Suzanne Beaton, Erika Beaton, William Beaton, Claudia Meyer, and Julia Meyer.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, John Allen.
