Ed VanDonge Sr., 85, of Ireton died Wednesday, Dec, 28, 1983, in a nursing home in Alcester, SD.

Services were at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, in the Dow Funeral Home in Ireton. The Rev. Robert Schwander officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Clark VanDonge, Waune VanDonge, Richard Van Donge, Steve Wagers, Russ VanBeek and Gerrit Lammers.

Mr. VanDonge was born April 9, 1898, at Downs, KS, and came to Ireton as a young man. He married Gertrude Schutt Oct. 29, 1921, in Sioux Center. He farmed in the Ireton area, and moved into town in 1979. She died Dec. 23, 1981.

Survivors include two sons, Edward Jr. and Jarold, both of Ireton; one sister, Elizabeth Van Hof of Littleton, CO; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
