Rites Monday At Granville For Well Known Resident
Funeral services were held at St. Joseph church Monday morning, April 17 at 9:30 for Henry Ahlers, age 59 years, 11 months and 24 days, who passed away at his home on Friday afternoon [April 14] at 1:30 after an illness of 9 months. Rev. Arnold Ahlers of Laurens, brother of the deceased, officiated as celebrant at the Solemn Requiem Mass, assisted by Rev. J. J. Dalhoff, Rev. J. G. Eagan and Rev. Zeno Reising.
Henry Ahlers was born May 19, 1890, oldest son of William and Rose Ahlers, on a farm near Granville. He attended St. Joseph school and later assisted his parents on the farm. On Sept. 15, 1914 he was united in marriage to Frances Schneider at St. Mary's church Alton, and began farming near Granville. They became the parents of 4 children, (Saverna) Mrs. Emil Fisch, Odelo, (Angeline) Mrs. Gerald Klein, and Alice Mae at home.
Pallbearers were 6 nephews: Sylvester Ahlers of Dell Rapids, Marvin Ahlers of Salem, S.D., Leo Ahlers of Laurens, Emmett Ahlers of Granville and Orville Vortherms of Adrian, Minn. [yes, only 5 were listed in the article] Interment was made in St. Joseph cemetery, under the direction of Fisch Funeral Home.
Surviving are his wife, Frances, his 4 children, 10 grandchildren, his mother, Mrs. Rose Ahlers; 2 sisters, (Ida) Mrs. Bill Vortherms, (Isabella) Mrs. Cyril Thier, both of Adrian, Minn.; and 9 brothers, John, William and Ray of Granville, Lawrence of Remsen, Rev. Arnold Ahlers of Laurens, Mike of Salem, S.D., Joe and Albert of Dell Rapids, S.D., Ben of Worthington, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his father; 3 sisters, (Anna) Mrs. John Schuver, (Rose) Mrs. Ben Ahlers, and Adeline; 1 brother, Anton.
Relatives attending from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Mike Ahlers and family of Salem, S.D.; Ben Vortherms, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ahlers, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ahlers and family, all of Dell Rapids; Donald Ahlers of Flandreau, S.D.; Mrs. Clara Reiffenberge of Big Stone City, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Ryan, Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Ahlers, Mrs. Ed Ortmann, Mrs. John Harpenau, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Langel, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Langel, all of LeMars; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Vortherms and family of Adrian, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Ben Ahlers of Worthington, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Bart Schneider of Eagle Lake, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. W. J.
