Hebbelman family story from the St. Joseph’s church book.
Herman Hebbelman was born January 18, 1857 in Sastrum, Hanover Province, Germany. After the death of his father in 1875, he lived for a short time with relatives before emigrating to the United States and to Granville.
In Granville Herman met Anna Weber who was born November 15, 1871 in Berburg, Luxembourg.. they were married February 16, 1892 in St. Joseph Church in Granville. They became the parents of fifteen children. Twelve of these children: Mary, twins Catherine and Margaret, Mathilda, Theresa, Joseph, Aloysius, Catherine, Frances, John, Agnes and Rosalia were born in Granville.
Herman was the town marshal at the time of his marriage and then was engaged in farming south of Granville until moving to Wilmont, Minnesota about 1909, They observed their 50th Wedding Anniversary February 16, 1942. Herman and Anna passed away at Wilmont on May 22,1943 and September 2, 1945.

Gernany died 9 Mar 1874 Sjostrum, Hanover Prov. Germany; and Mary Catherine Groeniger born 10 Sep 1829 Neidertangen, Germany died 26 Jan 1883 Lathen, Germany. Herman married 16 Feb 1892 Granville with Anna May Weber.
Anna May Weber was born 15 Nov 1871 Berbourg, Grevenmacher, Luxembourg died 2 Sep 1945 Wilmont, MN. Her parents were Johann Weber born 19 March 1836 Berbourg, Manternach, Grevenmacher, Luxembourg died 1884 USA; and Margarethe Krier born 1842 Niererdonwen, Luxembourg died 1916 Nobles Co. MN. Herman and Mary Ann had the following children:

2. Mathilda Elizabeth Hebbelman born 19 Jan 1895 Granville, IA died 18 Oct 1990 Jackson Co. MN. She married Fredolin Anthony Hartmann 1886-1945 They had children: Lillian Anna Hartmann 1917-2000, Theodore Herman Hartmann 1919-1949, Anbrose Thomas Hartmann 1920-1979, Richard Paul Hartmann 1922-1948, Germaine Teresa Hartmann 1923-2004, Alvin Hartmann 1925-1981, Teresa Ann Hartmann 1930-2018 and one other child not mentioned.
3. Theresa Anna Hebbelman 23 Aug 1896 Granville IA died 6 Dec 1992 Sedalia MO. Married Reid Butler born 1891 IA died 31 Aug 1938 Sedalia MO. Children – Arnitha Jeanette Butler 1917-2011, Marvin Butler 1919-1996, John Allen Butler 1921-2002, and one other child not mentioned.
4. Joseph Herman Hebbelman born 27 Feb 1898 Granville, IA died 29 Jun 1973 Wilmont, MN. He married Beatrice Frances Suedbeck 1911-2008. they had three children – Marlene Joan Hebbelman 1934-2011, Ronald Joseph Hebbelman 1940-2020 and one other child not mentioned.
5. Aloysius John Hebbelman born 8 Nov 1899 Granville IA died 28 Dec 1991 Adrian, MN. He married Genevive Ann Honermann 1909-1996, their children – Jolene Hebbelman 1937-1937, Aloysius Hebbelman 1947-1947 and one other child.
6. Katherine ‘Sister’ Laurentia Hebbelman born 4 Jul 1901 Granville IA died 24 Oct 1985 Rochester, MN.
7. Francis Anna Ella Hebbelman born 8 Mar 1903 East Orange, Sioux, IA died 11 Mar 1903/2003? Slayton MN. She married Henry Herman Ella, three children listed on Find A Grave as Patricia Louise Farrell, Rodney Carlton Ella and Reginald H. Ella.

11. Lillie Hebbelman born about 1909 IA She is listed in the 1910 census of Wilmont MN as being 1 year old. She is not in the 1920 census.
12. Eleanor Bertha Hebbelman born 6 Jul 1910 Wilmont MN died 22 Jul 1987 Nobles Co. MN She married Charles Michael Lais. Find a Grave lists two children Jarnes Lowell Lais and Sheryl Ann Grindy.
13. Antonette Genevieve Hebbelman born 10 May 1912 Wilmont MN died 13 Apr 1993 Adrian MN. She married William Boecker, Ancestry.com reports three children all listed as private.
14. Anthony Raymond Hebbelman born 10 May 1912 Wilmont, MN died 4 Oct 1948 Nobles MN.

Mrs. Elizabeth Schwarz passed away at her home in Granville Saturday evening February 2nd at 7 o’clock after a long illness with heart trouble, at the age of 73 years, 5 months and 11 days. Elizabeth Hebbelman was born at Sjostrum Province, Hanover, Germany on August 22, 1872, the daughter of the late Bernard and Mary Groeniger Hebbelman. At the age of 19 she came to this country and made her home with her sisters in Chicago and St. Louis, for several years. Then she came to Sioux County and on October 26, 1898 was married to John Schwarz at St. Joseph’s Church in Granville, where they made their home. To this union were born two girls and three boys namely: Mary, Mrs. William P. Ahlers, John, Rose, Joe and Tony at home. Also surviving are five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband on August 27, 1923, also two brothers and two sisters. She was the last of her family to pass on. She was a faithful member of the Christian Mother Society. Funeral services were held in St. Joseph’s Church Wednesday morning February 6 at 9:30 by Reverend Clemens Knobbe. Interment was made in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Reverend N. Krill of Norway, Iowa, officiated at the grave side service. Pallbearers were Bruce Vosburg, William Schemmel, Ed Budden, Frank Vortherms, Mike Harens and Joe Bachmann. On account of bad weather conditions many relatives and friends from Cincinnati and St. Louis were unable to attend the funeral.Note: If anyone has a family story to add to this biography, contact the page coordinator.
