Matt Haupert was born Feb 11, 1866 (1865) at Lamonte, Iowa and died on September 16, 1946. He married Mary Hemmen on March 28, 1894. Mary was born March 6, 1876 at Sandweiler, Luxembourg and died September 27, 1930. Matt was a farmer and Mary was a homemaker. They were the parents of twelve children.

Nicholas Haupert was born January 14, 1895 and died November 11, 1985. he married Rose Heidesch on January 19, 1926 at Remsen, Iowa. They lived in Granville. Nicholas was a farmer and Rose was a homemaker They had two children: Cleo and Cyril. Cleo passed away on September 2, 1977. Rose passed away on July 20, 1986. Margaret Haupert was born August 16, 1896 at Granville and died December 20, 1985. she married (Michael) ‘Fay’ Gaspar, a farmer, on January 12, 1921 at Granville. Margaret was a cook and ran a catering business. They lived in Granville and Rock Valley. (See Margaret’s obit on this web page as Mrs. Michael Gasper 1896-1985.)

Mary Haupert was born January 15, 1898 in Granville and died December 19, 1955. (See Mary’s obit as Haupert, Mary Miss 1898-1955 on this web page)

Rose Haupert was born December 20, 1899 at Granville and died May 24, 1970. she married Chris Portz, a farmer, on February 8, 1927. Chris died April 16, 1983. rose was a homemaker and they lived in Granville and Sheldon. They had three children. Donald, Gerald and Raphael.

Jacob Haupert was born March 6, 1902 at Granville and died December 18, 1983. he was a farmer. He married Hilda Pottebaum on November 26, 1929 at Alton. They lived in Alton. Hilda died August 14, 1977. Their children are: Elaine and Lorraine (twins), Ardelle, Dennis, and Dale (twins), Gerry and Judy (twins) and Jeanne. (See Jacob’s obit on this web page.)

Cecilia Haupert was born August10, 1904 at Granville. She married William Stallman, a farmer, on November 22, 1927 at Granville. They lived at Wien, Missouri and Independence Missouri where Cecilia was a homemaker. They have four children: Lucille, Clayton, Milo and Kenneth.

Lawrence Haupert was born Jul 3, 1907 at Granville. He was a farmer and married Hedwig Staab on August 18, 1928 at Remsen. They lived at Remsen and Pipestone, Minnesota. Their children are Louis, Joseph, Rita, Francis, Harold, Geraldine and Gerald (twins), Patricia, Lawrence, jr., James Shirley and Ron. (See Lawrence’s obit on this web page.)

Olivia Haupert was born June 11, 1909 and died October 20, 1982. she married Ben Stallman a janitor, on September 9, 1930 at Granville. They lived in Kanas City, Missouri where Olivia was a homemaker. They had two children: Delores and Lloyd.

Charles and Mathew Haupert (twins) were born August 4, 1910. Charles died the same day and Mathew died May 30, 1911.

Clarinda Haupert was born June 6, 1912 at Granville . She married Ray Portz, a farmer, on Jun 23, 1931 at Granville. They lived at Granville and Pipestone, Minnesota where Clarinda was a homemaker. Ray died October 10, 1980. their children are: Orville, Geraldine, James, Fred, Lyle, Janice and Mike. (Clarinda died 10 Apr 2001 Pipestone MN See Clarinda’s obit on this web page.)

OBITUARY of Matt Haupert

Matt Haupert Pioneer Granville Farmer passes on.
Funeral services were held in St. Joseph's church, Granville Wednesday morning at ten o'clock for Matt Haupert, well known farmer who died at his home Monday, Sept. 16 at 4:30 after an illness of long duration.
Matthew Haupert was born Feb. 11, 1865 in eastern Iowa and moved with his parents to a farm 4 miles southwest of Granville while he was still a small child. He lived all his remaining life on the same farm. After the death of Mrs. Haupert, two daughters, Clarinda and Mary remained on the home place with their father.
Surviving are three sons and 7 daughters, namely: Nick, Granville, Mrs. Fay (Margaret) Caspar of Rock Valley; Mary, Mrs. Chris Portz, (Rose), of Granville; Jake , Alton; Mrs. Wm. Stallman (Cecelia), New Cambria, Mo.; Mrs. Ben (Olivia ) , Stallman, Independence, Mo.; Lawrence, Pipestone, Minn.; Mrs. Ray (Clarinda) Portz and Mrs. Frank (Saverna ) Spieler, Granville; and by one sister, Mrs. Mike Ernster of Sisseton, S. D . who is the only surviving member of the family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Haupert, by two sisters, one brother, and his wife.
Interment was made in St. Joseph's cemetery. All of the children and their families and many other relatives and friends attended the services Wednesday.

Mrs. Mathias "Matt" Haupert died Saturday, September 27, at her home near Granville, after an illness of several years duration. Funeral services, conducted at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Granville on Tuesday, by the Reverends J.A. Gerlemann and L. Schoeppner.
Mrs. Mary Ann Haupert is survived by her husband and ten children, as follows: Laurence Haupert of Remsen; Mrs. Fay Gaspar of Sheldon; Mrs. William Stahlman of Missouri; Mrs. Ben Stahlman of Primghar; Mary, Clarinda and Saverna residing at home; Mrs. Chris Portz, Nick Haupert, Jake Haupert, all residing on farms near Granville. She is also survived by her two sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Nic Lux of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, Mrs. A. Kuester, Frank Hemmen, both of Granville, and William Hemmen of Dell Rapids, South Dakota.
The beloved wife and mother was born at Sandweiler, in the small duchy of Luxemburg, Europe, March 6, 1876, coming to the United States with her parents when six years of age. She was a devoted member of her church and a member of the Catholic Mothers’ Society.
A host of friends and relatives from her own and nearby parishes attended the funeral services Tuesday.
Among those from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Nick Lax and daughter, Sleepy Eye, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. William Hemmen and family, Dell Rapids, South Dakota; Mrs. Mike Ernster and son John, Sisseton, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Klein, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bank, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Krebs, Adrian, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Pete Krier and son John, Mrs. Anna Jarding and son Clarence, Emery, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. L. Lunders, Salem, South Dakota; Henry Krantz, daughter Sophia and son Vincent, Howard, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Riren, Iona, Minnesota.
