Mueller, George Henry 1884-1927 & Caroline Siege Family

This story was taken from page 442 of the Maurice Centennial Book (1891-1991). The story was transcribed for this BIOS by Beth De Leeuw of the Greater Sioux County Genealogical Society. Some research notes were added.

George Henry Mueller was born on May 16, 1884, to George W. Mueller and Ariedna Mathilda Hansen in Lowden, Iowa. He was one of five children. He was a sickly baby and was not expected to live.

George’s youth was spent in Lowden, Iowa. In 1903, at the age of 19, he came to Sioux County. He worked on the farm of his uncle, Mr. Henry Mueller, located about three miles southeast of Maurice.

On February 27, 1908, at St. John’s Lutheran Church rural Ireton, George was united in marriage to Caroline (Lena) Siege of Sherman Township, Sioux County, Iowa. Caroline (Lena) Siege was born on August 20, 1882 to Sophia Lehrman Siege and Frederick Siege in Stanwood, Iowa. The family came to the Maurice area in 1890. The young couple immediately began housekeeping on a farm five miles southeast of Maurice, where they remained for three years. While living there, a son named Lloyd Henry Mueller, was born April 26, 1910. Then in 1911, they bought a farm four miles southwest of Maurice.

On March 24, 1927, at the age of 42, George H. had a heart attack, while grading roads. After his dad passed away, Lloyd dropped out of school and took over the farm for his mother.

Caroline (Lena) Siege Mueller, resided at this farm until her death, June 17, 1963, at the age of 80.

End of family story in the Maurice book.
