Bosch, Gerrit Rev. 1873-1963 & Alice Van Regenmorter Family

This story was taken from page 274 of the Maurice Centennial Book (1891-1991). The story was transcribed for this BIOS by Beth De Leeuw of the Greater Sioux County Genealogical Society. Some research notes were added by Wilma J. Vande Berg.

Gerrit Bosch was born March 20, 1873, in the Netherlands, and was orphaned as a child. An uncle brought him to the United States, and together with other relatives assumed the responsibility of his upbringing.

At an early age he showed an interest in the ministry. He received his education at the Northwestern Academy at Orange City, and at Hope College and Western Theological Seminary at Holland, Michigan.

He was married to Alice Van Regenmorter on August 29, 1905. They became the parents of three sons; Jake, Peter and Gerald; and two daughters; Mrs. A.D. Jones and Henrietta, Mrs. Vernon Van Whye, and subsequently enjoyed twelve grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren.

Rev. Bosch was a forceful pulpit speaker and was often described by his parishioners as an evangelical minister. He was dedicated to the service of the church, and served pastorates at Fulton, Illinois, Lafayette, Indiana, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Steen and Leota, Minnesota, Carmel, Iowa, and Colton, South Dakota.

Mrs. Bosch was born April 28, 1888. She was a true “Juffrouw”, helping her husband in many ways, such as visiting, entertaining, and teaching. Following his retirement from the ministry, they established their home in Maurice. In 1957, they moved to Rock Rapids, and two months prior to his death, the couple moved to California, to make their home with a daughter.

A son, Gerald, lost his life in 1944, while serving his country in World War II.

Rev. Bosch died December 24, 1963, at the age of 94, at Lakewood, California. Mrs. Bosch died July 30, 1966, at the age of 83. Both were buried in the Sunnyside Cemetery in California.
