Death of John Korth
John Korth passed away Wednesday, February 5th, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Math Hemmer, after being confined to his bed for about two weeks with heart trouble. He was born on October 6, 1854, at Mt. Calvary, Wis., and was 77 years and 4 months of age at the time of his death. On February 4, 1878, he was married to Miss Margaret Fritchen, and to this union were born ten children, two of whom died in infancy. He leaves to mourn him 52 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. After their marriage they lived at Portsmouth, Iowa, until 1898 when they moved to St. Bernard where they resided on a farm 2 miles south of this place. In 1903 they retired and moved to Lindsay until the death of his wife who passed away in 1919, and since that time he has made his home with his children. He also leaves to mourn him Jacob Korth, of Humphrey, and Joe Korth, of Los Angeles, Calf., and Mrs. Leo Kessler, of Randolph.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 9 o'clock at the Holy Family church with a requiem hign [ sic high ] mass after which the remains were laid to rest in the parish cemetery. The pallbearers were Will Brenneis, Ben Weise, Will Oberhauser, A????? [ Albert? ] Dohman, Henry Luetkenhaus and Herman Otterpohlz.
Those that were here from a distance to attend the funeral were Mrs. Leo Kessler and daughter, Emma, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kessler, Mrs. Mike Korth and family, of Randolph, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Buettner and family, Mr. and Mrs. Will Schaefer, Peter Korth, of Cedar Rapids, John Buettner of Sidney, Mrs. Will Buettner, of Lexington, Leo Korth of Elm Creek, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Rosenthal, Mrs. Joe Dagus, Mike Leimen of Portsmouth, Ia.
