Education: Attended grade school in Carbon, IA and graduated from Corning High School, Carbon, IA. She continued her education at Creston Junior College and Iowa Western College and obtained an LPN nursing degree.

Religious affiliation: As an adult, she was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic church; after retiring, they became members of St Michael's Catholic Church, Harlan, IA

Marriage: Richard John Wilwerding; Jan. 20, 1968; St. Frances Cabrini Church, Omaha, NE

Employment: Employed as a cardiac nurse in the ICU unit at St Joseph Hospital, Omaha, NE; after she was married, Shirley continued to work as a nurse at Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan for several years before retiring in Harlan.

Hobbies/Interests: Loved reading, history and watching detective stories. She particularly enjoyed the TV game show, “Jeopardy.”
