Employment: After her high school graduation, Marvel worked as a telephone operator in Harlan, IA and for Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company. After her marriage, she became a farm wife, keeping her house neat and her yard beautiful while raising their children. During planting and harvest seasons, she made sure the farm laborers in the fields were well-fed, always providing warm meals. She tended to a large vegetable garden and enjoyed canning the produce. In 1994, Marvel and Fred moved from the farm and into Harlan. Later in life, she helped clean the church.
Hobbies/Interests: Marvel and Fred were active members of a card club, playing pinochle at Fred’s cousins’ homes. Family gatherings, reunions, and celebrating the 4th of July with the “gang” were highlights of her year. She was excellent at baking, and her cookies and bars were always a hit. One of Marvel’s greatest joys was watching her daughter, Marcia, pitch softball throughout high school and college. She cherished her family deeply and treasured every moment spent with them.
