Education: Attended grade school and high school in Avoca, IA, where he graduated with the Class of 1959. He then continued his education at Iowa State University in Ames, IA, and was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He graduated from Iowa State in 1965.

Religious affiliation: Baptized and confirmed at the Presbyterian Church, Avoca, IA

Employment: In 1965 after completing his education, Bruce started his veterinary career in Council Bluffs, IA. In 1966, he went to work for Dr. Juhler in Harlan, IA; they later became partners in the practice. When Dr. Juhler retired, Bruce partnered with Dr. Don Jacobi, Dr. Ray Pleak & Dr. Michele Eckerman in Harlan Veterinary Associates; he retired in 2006.

Hobbies/Interests: In high school, Bruce was an Eagle Scout and involved with 4-H, showing calves every year at the Shelby County Fair. As a veterinarian, he continued his involvement with 4-H by checking animals in at the fair for many years. Prior to and after retirement, Bruce enjoyed farming on his family farm in rural Avoca, IA. He loved the outdoors, particularly time spent at their lake home in Lake View; he loved traveling and spending vacations with family in Cozumel, and annual trips to the Caribbean with Dr. C.A. & Karen Gustafson; Bruce enjoyed fishing trips to Canada with his veterinary classmates. Bruce took great pride in his grandchildren and enjoyed attending their events.
