Survived by: Wife of 51 years, JoAnn; sons, DeWayne Kenkel and Donald (spouse, Ashley) Kenkel; grandchildren, Brooklynn, Brayden and Brock; brother, Neil Kenkel of Eagan, MN; nieces; nephews; other family members and friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Vincent and Irene (nee Erlbacher) Kenkel; sister-in-law, Bernice Kenkel

Education: Graduated from St. Joseph's High School, Earling, IA, Class of 1966

Religious affiliation: Baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Earling, Shelby County, IA; after his marriage, he was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #3900 and served as Grand Knight and District Deputy for 2 terms. He was an active fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Military service: After his high school graduation in 1966, he was drafted and served in the U. S. National Guard and was stationed in Germany for 2 years. After his discharge, he remained active until 1979.

Marriage: Jo Ann Marie Klein; May 6, 1972; location not provided

Employment: After his military service, he began working for Harlan (IA) Contracting; After Harlan Contracting, Gary worked a year with Jacobs Well Drilling then went to work with the Shelby County Road Department; next, he went to work at Oakland Foods for 5 years and was put on disability after knee surgery until his retirement.

Hobbies/Interests: Helped with the scouting program as kitchen help for the Ohwahnasee District at the Little Sioux Scout Ranch (north of Pisgah, IA); in retirement, he enjoyed watching TV programs, playing cards (especially pitch), doing word finds, and spending time with grandkids
