Annajean Ahrenholtz - Age 88

Annajean Ahrenholtz was born on January 7, 1923 to Artie and Anna (Sonneland) Errett in Center Township, Harlan, Iowa. She attended Rabbit Hollow country school, Center Township and graduated from Harlan High School with the Class of 1940.

On January 27, 1943, she was united in marriage to Harry Eugene Ahrenholtz, Sr. at her parents’ home in Center Township. They were blessed with nine children: Harry, Jr., Roger, Marijean, Annette, Jane, Jack, Clark, Craig, and Cynthia.

Annajean lived on the family farm for fifty years before she moved in to Harlan in 1999. For many years she worked for the family business, Ahrenholtz and Sons.

Family was the most important thing to Annajean. She was involved in her children’s school activities, served as a 4-H leader, and was an active member of her church. She loved company and loved to entertain for birthdays, anniversaries and holidays. She would graciously offer a sandwich, piece of pie, a candy bar or a full meal to anyone who stopped for a visit or was there to provide a service for her. She enjoyed painting china dolls and ceramics as a hobby.

Annajean died on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Elm Crest Retirement Home in Harlan, Iowa, having attained the age of eighty-eight years, eleven months, and twenty-nine days. She was preceded in death by her parents Anna and Artie; her husband Harry; children: Jack, Craig, Cynthia and Marijean; and her sisters: Audrey, Vivian and Violet.

She is survived by her children: Harry Ahrenholtz, Jr. and his wife Carol of Jefferson, Iowa; Roger Ahrenholtz and his wife Peg of Manilla, Iowa; Annette and her husband John Kloewer of Defiance, Iowa; Jane and her husband Richard Carey of Tucson, Arizona; and Clark and his wife Susan Ahrenholtz of Elk Horn, Iowa; ten grandchildren; two step grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; other family members and friends.

Pastor Ted Sieck officiated the 2:00 pm funeral service on Monday, January 9, 2012 at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa. Honorary casket bearers were: Karlee Ahrenholtz, Zachary Ahrenholtz, Ethan Ahrenholtz, Harry Ahrenholtz, Joseph Ahrenholtz, Emma Ahrenholtz, Ryan Ahrenholtz, Ryley Ahrenholtz, Molly Ahrenholtz, Anna Ahrenholtz, Isaiah Ahrenholtz and Katie Ahrenholtz. Interment was held at the Harlan Cemetery in Harlan, Iowa with Theodore Ahrenholtz, Tabitha Ahrenholtz, Camilla Ahrenholtz, Tracy Ahrenholtz, Michael Ahrenholtz, Scott Ahrenholtz, Troy Ahrenholtz, Todd Ahrenholtz, Justin Ahrenholtz, Emily Allen, Susan Kloewer, Sara Kloewer and Aaron Allen serving as casket bearers.
