Survived by: Daughter, Ardith (spouse, George) Forsyth of Nevada, IA; grandsons, Eric (spouse, Michelle) Forsyth of Monterey, CA, and Gregory (spouse, Christine) Forsyth of Newton, IA; great-grandchildren, Max Forsyth and Kate Forsyth, both of Monterey, CA, and Emily Forsyth and Anna Forsyth, both of Newton, IA; brothers, Ivan Fiscus and Wayne (spouse, Violet) Fiscus, both of Kirkman, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Madge Fiscus and Kathryn Fiscus, both of Harlan, IA; other relatives and friends

Education: attended Polk #5 school in Shelby County, IA, through Grade 8.

Marriage: Arthur John Nielsen, May 4, 1938, Elk Horn Lutheran Church parsonage, Elk Horn, IA

Employment: After leaving school, LaVerne worked as a hired girl for several years; after her marriage, she was employed by the Harlan School District for the lunch program.

Hobbies/Interests: Member, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Harlan, IA, and member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church Women. In her earlier years, she was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, IA, where she had taught Sunday school and Bible School. Previously, she was a 4-H leader, and was active in the Shelby County Association for Retarded Children as well as the American Red Cross. LaVerne loved children; she delighted in being Mrs. Claus when Art was playing Santa. She also liked to sew.
