Funeral services: Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home, Harlan, IA; Roy North, Evangelist, officiated. Burial of ashes was in the Redline Cemetery in rural Shelby County, IA.

Survived by: Son, Dr. Gary (spouse, Camelia) Jorgensen of Harlan, IA; sister, Lynn Rice of Omaha, NE; brother, Hoyt (spouse, Phyllis) Tague, Jr. of Mountain Home, AR; grandchildren, Richard Jorgensen of Audubon, IA, and Rachelle (spouse, Todd) Sorensen and Christina (spouse, David) McIllwain, both of Hendersonville, TN; 9 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Hoyt A. and Doris E. (nee Dent) Tague; husband, Harry Jorgensen (deceased August 1946); brother, Wayne (Bill) Tague

Education: attended Polk #8 through Grade 8; graduated from Harlan (IA) High School, Class of 1932; took normal training and many other courses from Drake and Iowa State Teachers College.

Marriage: Harry Jorgensen, May 1935, location not provided

Employment: Began her teaching career at Polk #8 (IA); after her husband’s early death, she moved to Harlan and, at first, taught in the Harlan rural schools; she later became the case worker for the Iowa Department of Social Services in Audubon County. She later retired and became the caretaker for her elderly parents, caring for them until their deaths.

Hobbies/Interests: Member, Churches of Christ, where she taught Sunday school for decades, both while she was working and after she retired; member, Business and Professional Women. She liked to bowl, work crossword puzzles, listen to music and enjoyed a peaceful, quiet lifestyle. Melba always enjoyed children, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
