Military service: 1952 – 1954, U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War

Marriage: Loretta Mae Fries, October 18, 1952, First Presbyterian Church, Shelby, IA

Employment: After leaving school, he worked at the Avoca (IA) Alfalfa Mill and farmed. Following his discharge from the army, he returned to farming; he also worked many other agriculture-related jobs in Harlan, IA.

Hobbies/Interests: cared for a large garden; enjoyed being around horses, and had tended many cattle and horses through the years; he often participated in parades with his horse, Queenie, and an antique buggy. Member, Shelby Saddle Club. He also liked antique John Deere tractors.
